27TH DECEMBER IS A WAKE-UP CALL FOR ALL PEOPLE OF SENYA - Abeiku Okai

The date, 27th December, is marked with a painful scar in the memory of the people of Senya. On that fateful date in the year 2011,  every single home in Senya Beraku was affected by the fatal wind that blew our brothers, sisters, friends and mothers, while they were joyfully celebrating the holiday.

We lost 27 souls with more also fatally wounded. The emotional wound was terrible and still lingers in the heart and minds of our people. But while this brings bad memories annually we ought to also realise it is a wake-up call for all of Senya to rise up, unite and build a common future and destiny.

We need to lay aside all difference and acrimony from any divide, be it political, chieftaincy, asafo, religious, etc. Our elders ought to wake up and ensure that we consolidate every gain so far and find a new path away from all that draw us back.

The youth also need to wake-up first to the acknowledgement of the fact that life is not all about today and tomorrow but rather God and the life after death. This date should remind all of us that we have a destiny to fulfill on earth and an account to give to our maker someday. We cannot build a future for Senya with youth who make God an option. We need to take God fully and ensure that we entrust our lives and future into His hand.

With that in place, we need to also give attention to moral discipline, hard work, humility, honesty and respect for authority and leadership. None of us should arrive too early and pretend to be a know it all person. Let's understand one another and tolerate those who do not share our opinions.

The best tribute to the dead is to live well and honour the living with a meaningful life that blesses others.

God bless Ghana and God bless Senya.

RIP TO OUR DEPARTED FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

  1. I wish to appeal to all and sundry to take steps to minimize the occurrence of such carnage. For example, drinking spots with tables and chairs should not be created on, with emphasis on on, roads meant for vehicular traffic. One only hopes that the authorities mandated to ensure the safety and well-being of us all are not taking things for granted. Oman Senya deserves better. Season's greetings to all. 🙏 ♥️ 🙏
